1331. MP gets ₹56,414 cr investment proposals at Katni mining conclave: CM Yadav
- On august 23, 2025, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister said the state received investment proposals of ₹56,414 crore from eight companies during the Mining Conclave 2.0' held in the Katni district.
- The state government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Coal India Limited for the exploration, processing and development of critical minerals. Another MoU was signed with TexMin ISM, Dhanbad, for the use of Artificial Intelligence, IoT (Internet of Things), blockchain and remote sensing in the mining sector,
- The state signed one more MoU with the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Bhopal, for mineral exploration and research. These colleges, with attached hospitals under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode, would be given 25 acres of land at a cost of Re 1 per acre
1332. Jharkhand Boosts Tap Water Coverage to 49% in 2024 Under Jal Jeevan Mission
- With over 34.4 lakh rural households now receiving water through taps, Jharkhand is steadily progressing in implementing the Jal Jeevan Mission, a Union govt initiative launched in August 2019 to provide functional tap water connections (FHTCs) to every rural home, school, and anganwadi centre.
- So far, Jharkhand has taken up 97,535 schemes under the mission, of which 56,332 have been completed. Around 24,781 completed schemes have already been handed over to village committees for operation and maintenance.
- The state has a total of 29,398 villages and 6,963 of them have been fully covered with piped water supply. Moreover, of the 62,54,059 rural households in the state, tap water now reaches 34,42,332 of them.
- In Ranchi (west), out of the 2,68,999 rural households in the area, only 1,59,899 have been connected, translating to 59.44% coverage.
1333. DRDO successfully tests Indigenous Integrated Air Defence Weapon System off Odisha coast
- On August 23, 2025, The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) achieved a significant milestone with the successful maiden flight-tests of the Integrated Air Defence Weapon System (IADWS) off the Odisha coast .
- The IADWS integrates three advanced components: Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missiles (QRSAM), Advanced Very Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) missiles, and a high-power laser-based Directed Energy Weapon (DEW).
- The system’s operations are seamlessly managed by a Centralised Command and Control Centre, developed by the Defence Research & Development Laboratory, which serves as the nodal laboratory for the programme.
1334. Isro conducts air drop test ahead of December Gaganyaan launch
- On August 24, 2025, in a major step towards India’s ambitious maiden human spaceflight mission, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully conducted its first Integrated Air Drop Test (IADT-01) of the parachute-based deceleration system designed for Gaganyaan.
- The test marks a critical phase in validating the safety mechanisms that will ensure astronauts’ secure return to Earth. The Gaganyaan mission, scheduled for launch in December 2025, will mark India’s first venture into testing human expeditions to low Earth orbit.
- The demonstration was carried out in close coordination with the Indian Air Force, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Indian Navy, and Indian Coast Guard, reflecting the collaborative spirit underpinning the Gaganyaan programme.

1335. Puwarti Village Gets Clean Water Access as Security Boost Opens Door to Development
- First Sadak, then Bijli and now Paani, has flown the Chhutwahi village for the first time in Maoist-affected Bijapur district in Bastar, months after establishment of a security camp in the region.
- Under the Jal Jeevan Mission scheme, 6576 meter long pipe line was extended with a tap connection to 120 families in Chhutwahi village in Bijapur district. The estimated cost of the project was Rs 37.9 lakh.
- Chhutwahi village, located 50 kms from the district headquarters and 450 km from Raipur, was once a Maoist stronghold and there was no sign of development in the region. It has brought hope and safety to the lives of people.
1336. Chhattisgarh’s Naxal Affected Chunchuna Village Gets Tap Water for the First Time
- The Jal Jeevan Mission has brought clean drinking water to the Naxal-affected Chunchuna village in Balrampur, Chhattisgarh, the first time since Independence.
- This significant achievement has benefited around 100 households in the village, providing them with access to pure and adequate water. The Jal Jeevan Mission aims to provide safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections to all households in rural India.
- Located in a remote area on the Chhattisgarh-Jharkhand border, Chunchuna village faced significant challenges in accessing clean drinking water. The villagers had to fetch water from distant places, which was a major inconvenience.
- The implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission, all homes in the village have been equipped with taps, providing 24-hour water supply.
1337. Madhya Pradesh’s longest flyover inaugurated in Jabalpur; to cut travel time from 40 to 7 minutes
- Union Ministerand Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister on August 23, 2025 inaugurated the State's longest flyover featuring a single-span cable-stayed bridge in Jabalpur.
- The 7-km-long flyover will cut the travel time between Madan Mahal and Damoh Naka from 40-45 minutes now to just 6-7 minutes, officials said.
- Built at a cost of about ₹1,200 crore, the project marks a milestone in modern urban traffic management and development, they said.
- A key feature of the flyover is a 192-metre single-span cable-stayed bridge built over a railway line. The corridor also includes three bow-string bridges — two at Ranital and one at Baldeobagh — each 70 metres long and constructed entirely of steel.

1338. Assam Rises in Tap Water Connections to 7.99 Lakhs Under Jal Jeevan Mission
- About 7.99 lakh households in Assam have tap water connections, a rise of 10 per cent from 2019, the Jal Shakti Ministry said on Saturday, as it allocated a grant of Rs 5,601.16 crore to the state to expedite the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission.
- Union Jal Shakti Minister, while approving this four-fold increase in allocation, assured full assistance to the state for making provision of tap water supply in every rural home by 2024.
- Assam has already approved schemes for 41.9 lakh tap water connections and work orders for about 17.85 lakh connections have been issued in 2021-22. In Assam on August 15, 2019, at the time of launch of the Jal Jeevan Mission, only 1.11 lakh (1.76 per cent) households, out of a total of 63.35 lakh households in 25,335 villages, had tap water supply.
- The allocation of the central grant to Assam under the JJM has been enhanced to Rs 5,601.16 crore. With this increase in central allocation, unspent balance of Rs 123.78 crore and the state's matching share of Rs 636.10 crore, Assam has an assured availability of Rs 6,361.04 crore for water supply work in 2021-22.

1339. Meghalaya Crosses 4 Lakh Tap Connections Milestone under Jal Jeevan Mission
- Meghalaya has reached a remarkable milestone of having over 400,000 functional household tap connections under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), with Garo Hills leading the way.
- JMM is a transformative initiative launched by the Indian government in August 2019. From 4550 Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTC) on August 15, 2019 to 4,00,812 connections today, this accomplishment signifies a major leap toward ensuring access to safe and sustainable drinking water for rural households in the region.
- East Garo Hills leads the JMM coverage at 80.09%, South West Garo Hills follows second at 79.02%, Ri Bhoi at 72.83%, North Garo Hills at 69.35%, Eastern West Khasi Hills at 67.56%, South Garo Hills at 65.56%, South West Khasi Hills at 65.15%, West Garo Hills at 59.82%, West Khasi Hills at 57.52%, West Jaintia Hills at 50.29%.
- The JJM, a nationwide endeavour, aims to provide safe and sustainable drinking water to rural households by 2024. In Meghalaya, out of more than 600,000 households, approximately 400,000 households now enjoy the benefits of tap water supply through this Scheme, representing a substantial 61% of the total number of households.

1340. Mizoram Achieves 100% Tap Water Access in 728 Villages Under Jal Jeevan Mission
- All 728 villages of Mizoram have been covered under the Centre's Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), the state assembly was informed on 23 February 2024.
- Out of the 728 villages in the state, the scheme was fully implemented in 621 villages while it was put into effect partially in 107 villages.
- The efforts are on to provide tap water connections to every household in those 107 villages by March before JJM is scheduled to come to an end. The water supply is inadequate for the 3.78 lakh population of Aizawl, the capital of the northeastern state.
